It took Luna a few hours and a lot of dissuasion by me to not work on this project for too long, but Luna came through. Kipp and I had even managed to catch a nap during that time, but it wasn’t enough sleep for my exhausted body.

By noon, she had sent Kipp and me a full report of news stories and SBI case files from the first two days after the meteor strike ten years ago. At the time, I had been in Boston partying the night away at the end of the semester. I’d been brought to Washington, D.C. by my family that night and joined the SBI not long after. So all I’d ever heard of those first two nights after the meteor strike, right before the Supernatural War had started, were mostly overexaggerated tales. Like the SBI had jumped right into action and bravely fought off the evil, aggressive supernaturals, or that the vampires and the dragons had almost taken over and wiped out humanity. Both of those story versions had come from both SBI agents as well as supernaturals.

In short, those first two days had been nothing but utter chaos. Our mortal weave, which had been so out of touch with supernatural creatures for most of history, had been suddenly exposed to things humans hadn’t wanted to be real. Things like faeries and vampires and dragons. Creatures and races humans had never seen in person before. Witches and vampires, werewolves too, had all lived in on the mortal weave for centuries, if not longer, but they’d always been held with a hint of mystery and myth to them.

No longer. In the span of a few minutes, everything had changed.

And that was where Aunt Stella came in.

My aunt, along with other members of my extended family and witch coven, had worked together with the government alongside branches of witches and paramilitary to create order out of the chaos happening in Washington, D.C. But those first few days had been filled with rogue agents on all sides, anyone doing anything and everything to stop the fighting. That was where my aunt had earned the title of Dragonslayer. For she and many others were the only people powerful enough to keep the dragons at bay. Vampires and werewolves, witches and faeries, they were nothing compared to the power of actual dragons, and the dragon shifters who had tended to come with them.

But then how had the Dragonslayer met Nikos Volkov?

Luna had managed to uncover a couple of reports and news clippings detailing answers to this very question.

“It looks like Aunt Stella had been on the streets for most of those first forty-eight hours,” I said as I put down Kipp’s laptop. He let me take over as I scoured the information Luna had given us. “Working patrols, helping the innocent. But a number of people reported the Dragonslayer also helping supernaturals. The reports are of her assisting both witches and fae and then at least a couple of vampires too.
